Artists Beware + A Chargeback Fraud

Wed Aug 13, 2014, 1:52 PM
Edit: this journal has been mentioned around lately because some people want to warn others about another Paypal scammer (Lunarium-Luna ), so I'm updating it with a link to a journal about this new scammer:

Hello Lovely people,

Today, I stumbled upon several journals by members who all got scammed by one person. Pixlett / ToxicMutagen (who deactivated their accounts today) scammed more than 3,000 USD from more than 20 artists by filling chargebacks just after a while from paying for adopts or commissions. And apparently, they can do the same with points too.

I can't really do anything but to share this with you in hope you won't get scammed by this person.

Here are some journals written about this issue:
<da:thumb id="475233681"/>  WARNING - Please readIf you take commissions or make adopts please do not let the users Pixlett or ToxicMutagen buy from you. They will pay after a few days, BUT they will issue a credit card chargeback on the purchase. (They "share" a Paypal name/email, so I am suspicious that it is just the same person who moved accounts)
I'm now in the negatives in Paypal due to the chargebacks, and sadly Paypal does NOT cover digital goods (including art) so I won't be getting this money back.
They are doing this to other users/my dA friends as well.
Here's just 3 of the chargebacks they sent me to show as proof. (They have spent thousands on my art, their paypal email is jacobredarcanine@gmail.com)

As you can see, I tried to provide evidence for one of them (still have many to go through)
Anyways, as this is a clear breach of my Terms of Service, I'm reclaiming ALL of their Sushi Dogs + an adopt that they purchased made by myself and ka

LATEST UPDATE:
And probably the last because there's great news! EVERYONE who got scammed is getting their money refunded! I didn't get a personal email but I checked my account and yes, it looks like I get the remaining $160 back as well INCLUDING the chargeback costs PayPal charged me. :D
Although it'll take time to get over this terrible dilemma and build trust again, especially for the artists who almost lost a grand deal of money and need it badly and might still be dealing with the aftereffects, this is certainly a victory to be celebrated at the moment! If it were

SCAMMER PIXLETT SPREAD LIKE WILDFIREEdit: ToxicMutagen has deactivate their account, I hope we find more information and get this person. She will probably make another DA account or in other websites, please be careful!

An artist was scammed for thousands of dollars by a user named Pixlett / ToxicMutagen. Pixlett has since deactivated her account.
She has scammed more artist at this point, probably over 20 artist, including me! There has been so many journals and people suffering because of this person!

<da:thumb id="475247449"/>  IF YOU HAVE BEEN SCAMMED BY PIXLETT READ BELOW[EDIT: 8-14-14] Forgive me guys as I'm getting swamped with comments about this situation. Since the original posting, we have learned that:
1) Pixlett/Toxic is a minor.
2) That if prosecuted, the parents will be held accountable, not the child.
3) At most, if convicted, she faces being marked as 'delinquent', and subsequently placed on probation unless she is tried as an adult, in which case, she would then be charged with theft/fraud, and face 3 years or more years in prison.
4) We have found who we believe to be identified as the suspect theif. From here, we should be able to file something [not sure what yet] against her/them in court.
:iconwitchpaws: and I are doing our best to dig up what we can about legal proceedings to have her delt with. Having her under 18 makes this extremely difficult to deal with legally, and also, each state has their own laws so I have to look at laws much different than my own. (which again, makes this hard)
I will update when we figure things out furt

And your points aren't safe:
.:WTF?!!? Again another problem DA?!?!Alright.
DA is again acting like a bitch.
So, it's again about the suspicious refunds that my sister have received for some commissions via the commission widget(previously talked about this here: ).
A moderator have replied to her ticket that she had sent yesterday about that.
The admin have explained that the points used for the commission was fraudulent and that the commissioner hadn't the right to use these points and blah blah blah...
You can read the whole reply here that she have received:
-----------------------------------
"Hello Makojupiter,

Thank you for contacting deviantART Customer Care. I am sorry for the inconvenience. The points used for that order were fraudulently purchased and spread throughout the community. As they were not that deviants to spend, the points used, including that commission purchase, needed to be pulled because of that. Sadly, there were a number of deviants affected by the stolen points.

This is a great journal on how to prevent these chargebacks. Check it out:

Feel free to spread this around.

Artists-Beware: check it out!

Artists Beware is a really helpful blog that might help you avoid getting scammed by people like
Pixlett / ToxicMutagen. They have a list of people who have scammed artists before. But understand that not all of those artists listed still scam. It would be better to see and judge the evidence provided against them carefully by yourself and probably talk to them about it to know their story.

Be careful, people!

I've heard a lot about this already, but thank you for doing your part to spread the word.
Most artists on dA are honest, hardworking good people, so it is a shame when a bad apple comes through & takes advantage of the community.

I have been getting cms from deviants a long time, and have only ever had one bad experience.  It wasn't a chargeback scam, more like I commissioned him and he never did the art, nor replied to my numerous polite requests for a refund, but still....

I wrote about it recently, and I would like to leave the journal here for your watchers to see, to prevent anyone else beng taken advantage of [if that's ok with you!]  Thanks for being vigilant!

WHAT A JOKEScrolling through my dA messages feed, I was surprised to see that OverlordJC had posted a journal.
As you may or may not know, I commissioned Overlordjc over TWO years ago for a b&w sketch for $20.
He communicated with me genially through notes, assured me he had no problem receiving payment, then I NEVER HEARD FROM HIM AGAIN.  Until today that is, when I made the following comment on this journal [which he has since hidden]

His reply was HILARIOUS.

I mean, seriously, to act so indignant when you are a documented thief and charlatan, dafuq?

Get over yourself John Crayton (jc.125@hotmail.com)!

It's not like you even knew the person in question, and to act otherwise is ridiculous.

It's sad that this sort of thing is getting so common :/ I actually went and did some research on some of my options the other day.

I found this the other day on Paypal's site: www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/dig…
It's a little button you install on your site that allows people to make Paypal payments for digital goods.

"Our automated fraud and risk systems leverage PayPal's understanding of digital goods risk profiles to proactively track and stop fraudulent activity before it hits. Powerful statistical and rules engines help reduce the likelihood of fraudulent payments. PayPal also constantly monitors account-level activity to identify problematic accounts and users."

...however, there are fees for using it, and I believe you have to some coding experience to integrate it into a web site that you own.

Here's the FAQ: cms.paypal.com/cms_content/US/…

So if you sell digital goods and want to use Paypal, I guess they want you to use this method but I don't think it would work for everyone.
I also found this site: www.payloadz.com/ which I believe you can connect to your Paypal, but I really don't know anything else about it other than that... they also charge fees fro using their service. Understandable, but I know some people don't like that sort of thing.

The best I could find is doing a money transfer through a business like Western Union if there may be any risk that the buyer could issue a charge-back.

I've seen kids doing idiotic things with online currencies, but they were of age 8-12. Not realising that the revenge will come is not appropriate for a mentally healthy 15 y.o. I wonder if their parents are...I don't know... Over-abusive? Or reverse? Maybe that's some vip person lol? Maybe she wants her parents to get into trouble or debt?
Who in their sane mind can do something this huge yet this stupidly catch-able?
I really hope this person is just super stupid due to some objective circumstances and after this lesson will lead a better life, not turns to something even more destructive.

You won't have to do anything. One of the artists that was ripped off is planning on taking this to court with others possibly following suit and the culprit's Paypal account was frozen and suspended when the news broke out.

Alright, I read through it: all I see is you care a little too much about this person that is not actually fucking trans.
They've changed their facade since the last time they chargeback-scammed people, and last time they stole about $8000 under her real name Alyssa. When she was caught, she started posing as her brother Jake after Paypal froze her original account. After taking on her brother's name, she pretended to be trans (and autistic, like her brother actually is) in order to gain sympathy. So you kinda fell for that.
Her first scam, as Alyssa, took place on FurArcadia: altmarket.net/index.php?topic=…
And you know, I don't fucking care if they're trans (even though they're not), they don't get respect because they think they can steal artists' time and money. Bottom line: that's what matters here. Fucking misgendering them is hardly related.
You care so much about your stupid fucking agenda that you're kinda leaving the justice part of it - the artists who were stolen from here - in the background. Again, excellent view of your priorities.

The issue here is not that people are disrespecting Pixlett's gender(Considering the fact that pixlett goes by different aliases, we really don't know WHO exactly they are),
It's that you're disrespecting the artists who got scammed by Pixlett thinking that Pixlett's gender pronouns are more important than their stolen time and effort.
This person scammed people for over 30,000 dollars and all you care about is that their not having their correct pronouns being used.
Two main things wrong with this is that that ignores the main issue at hand, the fact that Pixlett is a thief and shouldn't be respected for that, and the fact that most people don't even know pixlett's pronouns ANYWAY so many just assume a gender by default in order to associate them with.

There's also the fact that if someone wishes for respect, they have to earn it. What Pixlett did garners them no respect as they didn't even respect the people around them. Try and tell me that Pixlett is the true victim of this when the proof that they have been scamming people is right in front of you. You turned an issue about someone scamming people out of their money into one about gender. Tell me, if someone got raped and the rapist had they/them/themselves pronouns, and someone misgendered them and called them male, would you still be defending the rapist? I wouldn't, because pronouns or not, they're still a rapist and a horrible person. The use of pronouns so not matter when speaking of a person who comitted a crime. It is insignificant.
Pixlett, pronouns or not, is still a thief and a horrible person.

It is not sub-humanizing. No one is deliberately ignoring Pixlett's pronouns, it's just that they either don't know them or they're too angry and disgusted by what Pixlett did to really care for what they preferred to be called.

I'm all for transgendered rights as much as the next person but now is really not the time or place for this.

Their pages are deactivated.
There is no readily accessible way of finding their gender.
The misgendering is not an insult in this dispute.
Their alias is Alyssa, and so they are being defaulted to the female gender.
(Also I would like to point out their profiles are entirely false, made-up only to appear 'legit'. They're not trans.)
*There is no reason to make an issue out of something that has NOTHING to do with the relevant subject.
If you commit a crime, you are prosecuted for it, regardless of your gender identity. Gender rules have no place in this matter.

Sub-humanizing would mean they are degrading that person to something that is not human/below human. They are still being referred to with he/she/they, whether the pronouns are correct or not.
While some who have been affected by their scam are taking it out of hand, many are acting civil about the proceedings, and only want their money back.
While I agree fighting fire with fire is not the answer, Pixlett should understand that respect is a two-way street.
If they want their pronouns respected, they should have respected the artist's rights to be paid in the first place.
Simple as that.
Their gender is not an issue here; what matters is that they undoubtedly committed a crime.
Everyone has the right to be called he/she/they, but in cases like this, it does not directly pertain to the matter at hand and should have no place in the conversation.
